Do you ever wonder if there will be a movie you can go see as a family?
There’s really not much to choose from these days… until now! There is a fantastic family movie being released here in Mobile on September 18 at Carmike Wynnsong Theater® on Schillinger Road. It is called The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry. This is a wonderful story of an elderly man pouring his life into discipling neighborhood teenage boys. The results are heartwarming and life-changing as these boys learn the importance of studying God’s Word and sharing their faith. It is set in the quiet summer of 1970 when most teenage boys only needed to worry about getting home before the street lights came on. They unexpectedly discover the wisdom of one older than them and end up having a transforming summer.

It’s a film you can see with the whole family! Cottage Hill Baptist has been selected as the local sponsor of this movie – so let’s have a great turn out and make it known that we want more movies like this and are willing to support them! You can visit their website to find out more about the movie or to watch a trailer. You’re really going to enjoy it! www.sperrymovie.com. If you have any questions, feel free to call Susanne in the Pastor’s office at 662-8647 or Teresa Taylor at 650-2282.

“Film maker Rich Christiano has produced one of his most compelling films in The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry. Set in 1970, the film is visually beautiful. It was precious to see the many viewers streaming out of the theater who were deeply impacted by this heartwarming Gospel story.
I predict that Sperry will become a favorite in the Christian community.” — Doug Phillps, Founder, San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival

“The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry is a fantastic film and one that the entire Christian “community” needs to get behind. There have been many wonderful Christian movies released in recent years, but none that challenges folks of all ages like Sperry does. The character Jonathan Sperry should remind everyone that we are never too old to make a difference for the cause of Christ by being both mentors and role models for the young. This is an extremely family friendly and entertaining movie with a powerful message throughout the film of living our lives for the Lord.” — Mike Drayton, President, Serving Him Ministry, Mocksville, NC

A Fresh Encounter
September 20

All around us people are hurting. Their lives have been torn apart by life: broken relationships, job layoffs, physical illnesses, the death of loved ones. We need healing. Our nation is in the throws of economic upheaval. Tensions over issues are rising as our nation struggles to maintain a sense of Judeo-Christian values. We need healing. At the heart of every person is a God-created soul desperately needing to be connected with it’s Creator. Distractions of life, philosophies of men, and the sinful nature of man keep many from experiencing Abundant Life. We need healing.

We need a Fresh Encounter with the presence of God.

On Sunday morning, September 20, we’re crying out to God to bring healing. Healing to our nation, our community, and individual lives. We encourage you to invite your friends to this incredible day of worship. We’ll have specific seasons of prayer as we “call upon the elders” to pray for the broken, wounded, and hurting. We’ll unite together in praying for our land. Special emphasis will also be given for people to find Christ as their Savior. So again, we encourage you to invite your family and friends to this special day. Their lives may never be the same!

Body Building Bible Study Series
On September 20, we begin another series in our Bible Study Groups (BSGs) called Body Building.
God places everything needed in the local church in order to Develop Dedicated Disciples. Understanding how God works in and through the body encourages us to make the most of every moment in ministry. When one part of the body hurts, the whole body feels the sensation of pain. As members of one body, we should be sensitive to the hurts and victories of others in the body. With this mindset of working in Sync with each other – Kingdom work becomes our goal! This five-week Bible Study will give great insights into how we can build up the Body of Christ through helping one another. Don’t miss this!
