55+ Ministry
O God, You have taught me from my youth; and to this day I declare Your wondrous works… O God, do not forsake me, until I declare Your strength to this generation, Your power to everyone who is to come. Psalm 71:17-18
The 55+ Ministry at Cottage Hill is vitally important to who we are as a church. Our goal is to challenge those that are in the “Second Half” of life to make it their best half. It should be a time of “ReFirement” not retirement! No conversations about rocking on the front porch will be found here! At CHBC, we seek to encourage Senior Adults to find out what God wants them to be doing in their “Second Half” and then help equip them to do it.
Giving our members hands-on mission opportunities is the heart and soul of this ministry. Whether it is through mission trips, carrying meals to those in our area who cannot make a meal for themselves, or spending time with those who are homebound, our 55+ Ministry actively gives a tangible touch of Jesus’ love in our community and beyond. At CHBC, Senior Adults are all about making a difference for God in our world, not only in the second half – but the “Best Half of Life”!
Love to sing? Come join the Joy Singers on Wednesdays! Like to travel? With monthly events planned both in-town and out-of-town, the 55+ Ministry offers a great opportunity for you to grow and fellowship together in the Lord. In addition to mission opportunities, we are to be actively studying God’s Word. At Cottage Hill, we provide Bible study for couples and singles in the 55+ area.
55+ Vision 2010
JoySingers Mobile’s 55+ Southern Gospel Choir
Begins September 1, 10 a.m.
Well it is that time of year! We will begin our new season on Wednesday September 1. We’re not going to wait until the spring to start going places to sing. This year we will be hittin’ the road in the fall. We will pull out some great songs of the past and new ones as well. If you have a blue folder from past years; please bring that with you. Don’t forget our Game Day right after choir as well. Bring a snack and a friend. We play Phase 10, Dominoes or bring your own game.
It’s a NO COST Classics Tailgate Party-Thursday the 9th!
Bring your favorite snack and your own sack lunch as we have fun watching on a big screen the Crimson Tide’s quest to win last years National Championship. This will not be the championship game which would last 4 hours; but highlights of the season including the national championship. Ok…War Eagle fans get over it; if Auburn had won it, we would have done the same for them. The fun starts at 10 a.m. in the Junior High Area. Sign up at the 55+ desk.
Hands On Missions at the Ronald McDonald House the 23rd.
Continue collecting your aluminum drink tabs and bring them to our 55+ desk. Join us as we take our drink tabs to give to this wonderful place that provides housing for families of sick children when they are in the hospital. We will also ask that you bring a dish as we will be feeding the families and staff there as well. We will have time to hear their stories and minister to them. Please sign up at the 55+ desk by the 12th so we will know how much food we will need.

UPCOMING EVENTS
September 26 – October 2 Fall Foliage New England Trip
Attempting Great Things for God!
You will be hearing a lot of our quest to take the gospel presentation on CD (which includes music as well) to everyone in a one mile radius of our church on October 24th. We are praying that we will have interaction with those with whom we come in contact; but it could be as simple as ringing a doorbell and giving this free gift to the person who answers the door. I hope you will make your plans to help us as we attempt to reach our Jerusalem for Christ. It will be a rewarding time for all as we watch and see what God will do!
This month we will have two more times for you to come on a Saturday as we pray over the areas that we will be taking these CD’s to. You can drive by and pray or if the weather is pretty you can walk if you wish. If you drive you can do this! If you don’t drive you can ride and pray with a friend who does. The most important thing you can do is come and be a part of it! I hope to see you there.
JoySingers (Mobile’s 55+ Southern Gospel Music Choir) is starting back on the 1st with invitations already for us to sing at events. Come and bring a friend as we sing praises to our great God and have fun in the process. Don’t forget our Game Day that follows choir each Wednesday.
Thanks so much to those of you who are constantly asking is there anything I can do to help out around the church, is there anything the church needs and those who are willing to fill in at a moments notice when we have a need. Your willingness to serve does not go unnoticed! Your faithfulness is a blessing to all! Alice and I appreciate you so much and we know we have the best group of 55+ in America. Let’s keep going and doing and sharing and loving and giving and praying and serving! He is worthy!!
With a Heart for God, a Heart for People and a heart for Service!
