Christmas Means Grace

Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 8:9

Several years ago Queen Elizabeth visited the United States, and reporters delighted in giving out the details involved with her travel. She brought with her 4,000 pounds of luggage that included two outfits for every occasion. There was a mourning outfit in case someone died; 40 pints of plasma in case she needed her own blood. She even had her own hairdresser, two valets, and a host of other attendants. She had bodyguards, a trumpet fanfare everywhere she went; flashy jewelry, the finest clothes money can buy. The estimation was her trip cost 20 million dollars!

Contrast that with how God visited earth. Born to a country girl in an animal shelter, with no attendants present, and nowhere to lay the newborn King but a feeding trough for cows. When He was born the only trumpet that was blowing was the mooing of the cow and the braying of the mule. Smell was not of royal perfume, but of animal dung.

The Lord Jesus, who created everything in Heaven, owned nothing on earth. He was born in a borrowed womb, and buried in a borrowed tomb. To pay taxes, He had to borrow money from a fish. To feed 5,000 people, He had to borrow a lunch from a boy. To have His last meal, He had to borrow an upper room. There was no room at His birth; there was no home in His life; and there was no grave at His death.

You talk about living below poverty level! That is exactly what Jesus did. He became poor for our sakes. Now there is only one way to explain it: The Grace of God!

Prayer: “Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for coming to this earth. I understand that nobody forced you to come. Nobody coerced you to come. You didn’t have to come; but you willingly came for our sakes. Thank you for your Grace! Amen.”

“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.”
