ONE is a two-year initiative that is intended to expand the VISION of Cottage Hill. We are believing Jesus for more resources for our church, more ministry for our city, and more impact for our world. In order to accomplish this ONE VISION, we are going to unite as ONE CHURCH around ONE FUND. There are three major strategies:
ONE MIND | $6M
This amount reflects our annual budgeted ministry needs x 2. Everything we are doing in our current vision (age-graded ministries, LIFEGroups, Worship Ministries, facility maintenance, debt reduction, etc) is included. We KNOW we can do this…because we are doing it.
ONE HEART | $3M
This amount reflects our Expanded Vision for Cottage Hill. We believe God desires to expand our efforts primarily in Worship, Church planting, LWYL, and new LIFEGroups. Cottage Hill is NOT an institution. We are a people on mission, connecting people with Jesus Christ and one another. We want to continue to grow in that way.
ONE MISSION | $1M
In this two-year initiative, we believe God is challenging us as a church to give the largest amount we have ever given to missions both locally and globally. This one million dollar goal includes Love Where You Live, missionary support, global partnerships, and local outreach initiatives.
The Generosity Ladder is a discipleship tool designed to help people move from money being their god, to money being a tool for God’s Kingdom. The Generosity Ladder does not focus on amounts and percentages, but rather our behaviors and attitudes toward giving as we become more like Christ.
Each rung on the ladder represents a different stage of growth toward a lifestyle of generosity. These are not rungs you ascend to get to God; they are a tool to evaluate your growth in generosity. Scripture encourages us to grow in every aspect of our faith, including giving (2 Corinthians 8:7).
Someone who has not previously been a giver; it is the place that each of us start our journey to total obedience in the area of stewardship to our Lord.
Someone who gives regularly, but not a consistent amount or percentage of their income.
Someone who gives a consistent percentage or proportion of their income, but less than a tithe of their income.
Someone who consistently gives, by faith, at least a tithe of their income and often gives sacrificially about the tithe, giving offerings to the Lord with expanded faith and obedience.
Someone who has committed to give above and beyond the tithe for a lifetime, and by faith asked, “What am I NOT giving?” instead of “What am I giving?”
Frequently Asked Questions
Our mission drives us: “Connecting people to Jesus Christ and One Another.” We have, we are, and we will continue to live the Gospel, love the city, and be the church in Mobile and beyond. With so many people in our city and world that need Jesus, we are compelled to keep expanding Cottage Hill. Our current resources, environments, and impact are limited. This new initiative will provide for more.
ONE Fund more effectively equips and unites Cottage Hill to accomplish who Jesus has called us to be today and tomorrow. There are several reasons for this change. First, this approach reminds us that we are one church with one vision. With a God-sized goal of $10 million, every dollar given will count as part of our ONE VISION. Second, when we give to different funds, we place greater value on some giving and less value on other giving. When we separate “mission giving” from “supporting the church,” it is easy to forget that supporting the church is supporting the mission. The church is Christ’s “Plan A” for reaching our city and world with the Gospel.
During this two-year period, every generous contribution to God’s work through Cottage Hill is a contribution to our ONE initiative. Every aspect of our current ministry and every aspect of our future ministry will be funded through ONE Fund. There will be no separate funds. Therefore, every weekend becomes an opportunity to celebrate and contribute towards what God is doing in and through Cottage Hill as we give for our church, our city and our world.
Yes, as part of our expanded vision, we will continue to pay additional principle payments on the church debt. Our initial construction costs were $15.4 million of which we borrowed $12.2 million in 2008. Through God’s faithfulness and your support, we have been able to reduce the debt to $6.7 million as of September 2017. With ONE FUND, we will make our regular monthly payments of $39,000 with an additional $10,000 toward the principle.
We completely understand that there are financial demands and challenges in our lives. However, we also believe that Jesus has called us to manage His money well. Our church has provided some great resources that will equip you to manage God’s money for God’s glory. Please consider reaching out to us in this season.
